Is it time to consider a different strategy for fixing America? It is widely recognized that our system of governance, including our campaigns, our elections, and our fundamental right to representation have been undermined and usurped. Our civil liberties are vanishing, the media lies to us, Wall Street has taken control of our Congress, and the natural world is on the verge of collapse. It is time to assert our rights again; time to organize ourselves thoughtfully in order to replace this corporate, plutocratic totalitarian coup with a government which is responsive to the will of the people. The well-being of our democracy and our planet require it. This is the Mission of the People’s Congress. South Africans established the African National Congress in 1912, in response to a call from Pixley ka Isaka Seme. He said, “We are one people. These divisions, these jealousies, are the cause of all our woes today.” In 1985, New Zealand began a process of changing their First Past the Post (FPTP), Winner Take All, Most Voters Lose, two-party system (documented here). Egypt, Turkey and New Zealand offer additional examples of direct democracy at work in ways which are utterly inconceivable to most Americans today. Why? The People’s Congress is building the framework for a new organization which can accommodate the various groups and organizations within the progressive community. We believe very strongly that we need to build that base before we reach out to other Americans who may not yet quite understand the gravity of our situation. Our vision is to establish a People’s Congress which truly does represent the people of America. We can no longer depend on our elected officials to do this, now or in the distant future. It’s time to let our imaginations guide us. Join the People’s Congress NOW. We invite you and your organization to endorse the People’s Congress today! Sincerely, John Mulkins |
